nullBoston University School of Medicine’s Alzheimer’s Disease Center, Boston, MA

Our forward-looking approach to treatment programs for Alzheimer’s care has led Senior Living Residences to a formal affiliation with Boston University School of Medicine’s Alzheimer’s Disease Center (BU ADC), whose mission is to be on the cutting edge of research, clinical care and education related to memory loss. Through our affiliation, BU ADC clinicians and faculty provide continuing education and in-service professional training for Senior Living Residences’ management and caregiving staff, as well as local eldercare professional colleagues. Seminars and lectures by BU ADC educate residents and family members about memory loss, dementia, prevention, treatment and caregiving. Senior Living Residences’ residents also gain easy access to the BU ADC’s exciting research program and the opportunity to participate in a variety of clinical research studies, including trials of new treatments.

The BU School of Medicine’s Alzheimer’s Disease Center conducts clinical research into the risk factors, genetics, prevention and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, as well as issues pertaining to dementia caregivers. BU ADC also provides clinical evaluations and treatment for individuals with memory loss and Alzheimer’s. For more information, visit www.bu.edu/alzresearch.

nullDovetail Health, Needham, MA

Senior Living Residences and Dovetail Health have launched a groundbreaking Medication Assessment Program providing a comprehensive medication “check-up” for seniors moving into a Senior Living Residences community. Residents and families meet personally with an experienced clinical pharmacist who provides a thorough evaluation of each resident’s medications. A summary report identifies potential medication conflicts and related safety risks, provides personalized medication charts that families and residents can share with physicians, identifies possible medication-related issues, and suggests particular questions that families may want to pose to physicians.

New research shows that we can improve brain health and possibly slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias through lifestyle changes, especially dietary changes. Therefore, Senior Living Residences has partnered with internationally recognized Nancy Emerson Lombardo, Ph.D. of Health Care Insights to implement “The Memory Preservation Nutrition® Program” for the first time in New England assisted living. Our residents benefit from a nutrition rich in “brain foods” such as antioxidants, fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and omega-three fatty acids.
