Initiatives towards Advancing Research in Alzheimer’s Disease

At Senior Living Residences (SLR), the latest research about Alzheimer’s disease informs the innovative care and treatment that residents of our Compass Memory Support Communities receive. Our interest in and focus on research also extends to SLR's affiliations and involvement with local area researchers and their projects.

SLR is committed to providing cutting-edge care for people with memory loss and to advancing knowledge about Alzheimer’s disease. Through our affiliation with Boston University’s School of Medicine and our support of other area researchers, SLR plays an integral role in the advancement of research in Alzheimer’s disease.

Research Activities with Boston University School of Medicine's Alzheimer’s Disease Center

  • HOPE Study: This longitudinal study increases understanding of age-related changes in memory and thinking.

  • Heart and Brain Aging: Using heart and brain imaging and cognitive measures, this study seeks to better understand relations between heart and brain health among aging adults with mild memory loss.

  • IDENTITY: This treatment trial will evaluate if an oral mediation, “LY450139”, can slow the progression of mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease.

Research Activities with the Center for Translational Cognitive Neuroscience

  • The Emface (Face Memory Study): This study examined differences in memory for faces between people with Alzheimer’s disease and healthy older adults. The results of the study are currently being analyzed. The outcome of this study may yield new information to assist people living with Alzheimer’s disease.

  • The Revelation Study: This study examines memory for words presented at different time intervals. The study is currently looking for participants including people with Alzheimer’s disease and healthy older adults.

Research Activities with McLean Hospital

  • The Effectiveness and Safety of Aricept in People with Mild to Severe Alzheimer’s Disease Residing in Assisted Living: This study seeks to identify and treat individuals with memory problems who are residing in an assisted living community.
