Cape Cod Senior Residences recently held a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate receiving the Purple Flag for Dementia Care™ accreditation. Purple Flag for Dementia Care™ is a collaboration between the Institute for Senior Living Education (ISLE) and the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA) but has since expanded outside of CT. Historically only presented to providers with a dedicated memory support neighborhood, Purple Flag has expanded to also recognize traditional assisted living communities, and Cape Cod Senior Residences is the second in the nation to receive their new “Purple Flag for Assisted Living” Accreditation. In order to achieve this, Cape Cod Senior Residences demonstrated adherence to 60 practice recommendations for the care of individuals living with dementia, identified as essential and valuable standards in making a difference in dementia care and support. It is widely known that many residents in a traditional assisted living environment may experience varying levels of memory loss, and it’s important for providers to be able to support these residents.

The flag-raising event provided an opportunity for the assisted living community’s associates, residents, family members and local eldercare professionals to celebrate the milestone achievement. Notable guests included State Representative Thomas Moakley, Donna Tod Rivers and Katie Romagnoli from the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center, Senior Living Residences President & CEO Tadd Clelland and Chris Carter, CEO of Purple Flag for Dementia Care.

Donna Todd Rivers also shared a few words. “On behalf of the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center, we are so thrilled to learn about your new designation as a Purple Flag community,” she shared. “It shows the commitment and dedication of this staff and this company to support those with memory loss and their caregivers. It’s truly a big deal, and each and every one of you are so lucky to be involved with this company, community, and designation.

In his remarks, Cape Cod Senior Residences Executive Director, Mike LeBrun, shared his admiration for his hardworking and compassionate team. “It’s inspiring to see this team go above and beyond each day to enhance the quality of life of the residents that choose to call our community home. You are a huge part of why CCSR is such a special place, and I’m truly grateful for your commitment and hard work.”

“We’re honored to induct Cape Cod Senior Residences as our latest Purple Flag Accredited community,” said Christopher Carter, President of Purple Flag for Dementia Care™. “Current and future residents, families and anyone interested in both the quality of care and quality of life provided here at Cape Cod Senior Residences may be assured knowing that this community has achieved this very important milestone.”
